Restaurant plans 'Red Solo Cup Nights'

Restaurant plans 'Red Solo Cup Nights'

In the song Red Solo Cup, country singer Toby Keith proclaims the cups as the best receptacle for barbeques, tailgates, fairs and festivals.

Quaker Steak & Lube at 2259 Deming Way, will put Keith's proclamation to the test as it hosts weekly “Red Solo Cup Truck Night” every Friday night.

“Not only is the song a lot of fun, it gave us a great idea for an event,” said Chelsey Gardner, assistant general manager of QS&L. “We anticipate that people will bring in all models of trucks to show off at the truck nights, there'll be live bands on selected Fridays and, of course, the red Solo cups.”

Patrons can purchase the ubiquitous red Solo cup for $5 and “fill it up” with Coors Light/Miller Lite. When combined with the festive and fun atmosphere of a truck show, the night will do Toby Keith proud.

Craft Beer Week Is Under Way In Dane County

Madison Craft Beer Week is under way.

The 10-day countywide festival promotes Dane County's craft beer culture and beer appreciation.

Craft beer lovers can take part in beer dinners, beer walks and even brewery parties.

Staff at the Great Dane in downtown Madison spoke with WISC-TV about the festival.

"We get people coming in from out of town saying, 'You know, we heard this place is really great. Madison's having Craft Beer Week and we really just want to check it out.' So we get to enlighten a lot of outsiders about the coolness of Madison's beer scene," said Reese Railling, a manager at the Great Dane.

Craft Beer Week runs through May 13.

Area restaurant gives discount for National Nurses Week

Nursing is described as both an art and a science, but during National Nurses Week from May 6 to 12, it will be described as a way to receive a 20 percent discount on food at Quaker Steak & Lube.

By showing a resident nurse ID card or pay stub, patrons will receive 20 percent off the entire food order, excluding alcohol during the week.

National Nurses' Week runs from May 6, which is National Nurses' Day, through May 12, which is Florence Nightingale's birthday. Nightingale served as a nurse during the Crimean War and paved the way for modern systems of nursing.

EatDrinkMadison.com Reviews Craft Table and Tap

Craft Table and Tap, which opened in early January in Middleton, is supposed to have a lot of similarities to its sister restaurant, the ultra-popular Coopers Tavern. Unfortunately, there’s not much family resemblance–yet.

Sure, there’s the gastropub menu and the extensive tap and bottle list, but the food leaves something to be desired.

Festivus Fundraiser Returns For Second Year

Festivus Fundraiser Returns For Second Year

A Wisconsin restaurant that hosted a Seinfeld-inspired Festivus fundraiser last year is taking it a step further this December.

Quaker Steak and Lube in Middleton, located just outside of Madison, is celebrating the fake holiday made famous in a 1997 "Seinfeld" episode every day this month. The celebration culminates with the actual date of the made-up holiday on Dec. 23.

On that day, anyone bringing a donation can air their grievances and the person who has the most original and funny one will earn a chance to win the 7-foot aluminum Festivus pole on display at the restaurant.

Anyone who donates to the food pantry can have their picture taken next to the pole, which was made by a Milwaukee company.

EatDrinkMadison.com reviews Bison Jack's

I eat a lot of protein, but one type that hasn’t made a regular appearance in my rotation is bison. I’m thinking that will change now that I’ve enjoyed a meal at Bison Jack’s, which opened earlier this month in Greenway Station.

According to the USDA, bison has less fat (2.42 g) and fewer calories (143) and about the same protein (28.4 g) per 3.5-oz serving compared to select beef (8.09, 201, 29.89), pork (9.66, 212, 29.27) and even chicken (7.41, 190, 28.93).
