Meeting scheduled on sex offenders' move to Westport | Crime
Public safety authorities will hold a meeting about the scheduled release of two convicted sex offenders to the area.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said Steven J. Howell and Waylon M. Redding, both required to be registered sex offenders for life, are scheduled to move into the town of Westport.
A community notification meeting will be held Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center, 5184 State Highway 19.
Howell, 28, was convicted in 2004 for repeated sexual assault of the same child, and in 2005 for the same charge, Dane County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Elise Schaffer said.
Redding, 33, has two convictions from 1999 for second-degree sexual assault of a child, Schaffer added.
Both men were released from prison earlier this year. They will be roommates at the same residence, the sheriff’s department said.
At the meeting, more detailed information on their offenses and information about protective behaviors and personal safety will be covered, authorities said.
