Middleton coaches remember hall-of-famer Dewey Stendahl

Middleton coaches remember hall-of-famer Dewey Stendahl

Educators recall his athleticism, sportsmanship

Though colleagues said DuWayne Stendahl’s athletic prowess was enviable -- colleague and friend for 38 years Tom Cabalka said Stendahl was sure to beat him in any game from golf to horse shoes -- it was his reverence for others that distinguished him as a great coach and educator.

Coach “Dewey” Stendahl was a teacher and sports coach in the community for more than three decades. In recent years, Stendahl had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and was living with the disease publicly. He died Nov. 1 at 64 years old. Colleagues and friends said the long-time Middleton-Cross Plains school coach is remembered as a true sportsman.

A fifth annual art show and auction Thursday will benefit the Middleton Outreach Ministry.

Food Concepts, Inc. will host the event from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 2551 Parmenter St. in Middleton.  The event will showcase and auction over 200 pieces of art, said a press release.  Paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, glass and more will be on display and for sale.

Two artists will be featured this year – Sculpture Brock Rumohr and Ginny Jenson Jewelry.  Rumohr will work with guests to create a collaborative sculpture and will remain on display at FCI.

"Only good things come to be created when people get together and work collectively," said Rumohr. "The focus on ownership dies away and is replaced by a desire to 'make together.' Everyone owns it and no one owns it all at the same time."
