ANiU Salon And Spa Takes Part In 'Made In America' Christmas

You can do your part this holiday season to support the local economy by supporting American made products and services. ANiu Salon and Spa is taking on the "Made in America Christmas" challenge!

The 85 employees of ANiU Salon and Spa received $64 dollars to help in creating 200,000 American jobs. They're encouraged to use the money to buy only products that are made in America. The salon provided the employees with a list of American made products to help with their spending. The salon is also encouraging clients at ANiU to do the same.

The "Made in America Challenge" was started by Diane Sawyer of  ABC World News. She challenged viewers to only purchase items that were made in the United States. It's not as easy as it sounds. Since the campaign aired, thousands of people have taken the challenge.

Festivus Fundraiser Returns For Second Year

Festivus Fundraiser Returns For Second Year

A Wisconsin restaurant that hosted a Seinfeld-inspired Festivus fundraiser last year is taking it a step further this December.

Quaker Steak and Lube in Middleton, located just outside of Madison, is celebrating the fake holiday made famous in a 1997 "Seinfeld" episode every day this month. The celebration culminates with the actual date of the made-up holiday on Dec. 23.

On that day, anyone bringing a donation can air their grievances and the person who has the most original and funny one will earn a chance to win the 7-foot aluminum Festivus pole on display at the restaurant.

Anyone who donates to the food pantry can have their picture taken next to the pole, which was made by a Milwaukee company.

Salvation Army Says Donations Are Up

Salvation Army Says Donations Are Up

The Salvation Army of Dane County said more people are ringing bells and giving this holiday season.

Preliminary retail numbers show more people are shopping this holiday season, and it looks like Dane County's shoppers are giving more to those famous red kettles.

The Salvation Army of Dane County said its current kettle donation total of $156,000 is up $10,000 from last year at this time. And bringing technology to the forefront of its Red Kettle campaign, the Salvation Army is hoping QR codes help recruit volunteers and prompt shoppers to make credit card donations.

"We have worked very hard this season to get the coverage," said Maj. Loren Carter. "Because we figured that each shift represents about a $100 of income at each location. And so the coverage is very important."

Out of 12,000 total bell ringing shifts, 7,000 shifts are left for the season. The goal for this year's campaign is set at $715,000.

Dane Co. Exec Urges Buying Local On Black Friday

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi is urging the public to buy local on Black Friday to help support local businesses in the area and return valuable dollars to the county's economy.

Leaders and retailers from Dane Buy Local, a coalition that advocates for thinking local first, joined Parisi at the event Tuesday.

"Eighty-six percent of the county's businesses employ 10 or fewer people," Parisi said.  "By buying local on Black Friday, and throughout the year, we can support these working families, create and retain jobs in the area, and make a real positive impact on our local economy."
