MHS to perform 'The Crucible' this weekend

The MHS Drama Club will present Arthur Miller’s "The Crucible" on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

This Tony-Award winning play invites the audience to Salem, Mass., in 1692 as the fear of witchcraft is being spread throughout the area. As panic builds and more people are accused, neighbors and friends turn on each other, faith is shaken, and lives are ended. Miller’s theatrical version of historical events, a thinly-veiled allegory paralleling McCarthyism of the 1950s, raises important questions about truth, power, and the marginalization of "the other" as fear takes over.

The MHS production includes a cast of 22 performers, while more than 100 high school students will be involved as set builders and painters, costumers, lighting and sound designers and operators, stage managers, ushers and actors.

Seniors Adam De Santes and Annie Baker star in the lead roles of John and Elizabeth Proctor.

Photos from rehearsal can be seen on the district's Facebook page.
