Middleton PD launches anonymous tip-texting program

Middleton PD launches anonymous tip-texting program

The Middleton Police Department is launching tip411, a tool that enables the public to text message anonymous tips to police.

The service is powered by CitizenObserver, a technology company that removes the identification of the tipsters who wish to contact police anonymously.

The tool also lets police respond back, creating a two-way anonymous text chat.

Cell phone users can send a tip to the Middleton Police Department by texting the word MIDDLETON followed by the tip information to 847411 (tip411).

In a news release, Middleton Police Chief Brad Keil applauded the program and said it is a way the department can reach out to a younger demographic.

Teaching a second calling for Cross Plains 'Top-Notch Teacher'

Teaching a second calling for Cross Plains 'Top-Notch Teacher'

5th grade educator Jenniper Hylbert nominated for praise by student

After several years of running a business with her husband, a now-teacher at Cross Plains Elementary School discovered her true calling is within the hallways of the school.

At Park Elementary, Jenniper Hylbert feels right at home. This is her place.

"I know that I love this because I think about it all the time," Hylbert said. "I think any teacher will tell you this."

This is Mrs. Hylbert's first year teaching. In fact, teaching is her second career.

Back in the day, Hylbert and her husband owned an ecological computer-based business in Boulder, Colo. But being an educator was always in the back of her mind, she said.

"When we decided to disband [our computer business], both of us thought about teaching," Hylbert said. "I love being a teacher. I really want to do this for a long time."

Contest offers website help to area non-profits

Area businesses collaborate for 'Wish on a Website'

A Monona woman together with three area businesses are offering their services to a lucky Dane County non-profit through a contest.

Maggie Baum of Maggie B. Communications partnered with Waterfront Graphic Design, Beth Skogen Photography and StoryFirst Media to create the "Wish on a Website" promotion, offering the opportunity of a variety of services to help out a community organization.

In a news release on her website, Baum said the idea behind the contest is to give back to the community.

"In this economic climate organizations are really fighting for resources and fundraising dollars and this is one small way we can help make their efforts go a little farther," Baum wrote.

The winner will receive a website design, a photography session with free images, a 2-minute documentary video and copywriting to help the chosen organization better reach the community.
