Baby Hospitalized; Police Suspect Child Abuse

A 14-day-old boy remains hospitalized as Middleton police investigate possible child abuse.

Police told WISC-TV they were called to a local hospital Sunday night, after the baby was brought to there with a fever and convulsions.

Doctors determined the child suffered a skull fracture. Police said they believe the incident was the result of forceful shaking.

Investigators said the boy had been in the care of several different people.

The child is responsive, remains hospitalized and is in the custody of Dane County Human Services.

Middleton Home Burglarized

A home in Middleton was burglarized early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the 3600 block of Napoli Lane for the report of a home invasion just after midnight.

Residents told police five or six men forcefully entered their apartment. All of the men were wearing bandanas over their faces and two of them had guns, according to a release from the police department. The residents were forced to the ground while their apartment was burglarized.

Police continue to investigate the incident and urged anyone with information to call Middleton police.

Storms Knock Down Tree Branches, Cause Outages

Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds knocked out power to thousands of households in Wisconsin early Monday.

The storms also knocked down many tree branches in the area.

In the Madison area, Madison Gas and Electric said it has restored power to all but about 50 people by 4 p.m. Monday.  Madison Gas and Electric said all customers should be back in service by early Monday evening.

National Mustard Day: Fun for all Ages

Middleton High School graduate, Diana Frank, returned from New York City to her hometown of Middleton to help celebrate National Mustard Day.

Diana was one of thousands of people who were hot-dogging around downtown Middleton on Saturday Aug. 7.

Free hot dogs were available with a suggested donation of $1 benefitting the Transplant House.  If you dared to put ketchup on your hot dog, a $10 fee was imposed!

Centurion 100-Mile Bike Race Canceled Due To Rain

The Centurion 100-mile bike race from the Middleton Municipal Airport through Blue Mounds and back was canceled Sunday morning due to rain.

Many of the 100-mile route riders joined the 50-mile race, leaving late around 9:30 a.m.

A 25-mile race started around 10 a.m.

More than 1,000 riders from more than 15 states signed up for this year's event.

The race is scheduled to be back in Middleton next year.

Bike Event Could Affect Traffic

One of three Centurion Cycling races being held in North America this year will wind through wetern Dane County, and the Dane County Sheriff's office is warning of the potential for traffic delays. 

The race runs on Sunday, August 8th from 7am to 3pm, and will start and finish at the Middleton Municipal Airport.

Racers will have a controlled closure for 15 minutes starting at 7am on Airport Road, Enchanted Valley, County Highway P, Bourbon Road, County Highway KP and a portion of Garfoot Road.  After that participants must sstay on the right side of the road, and traffic is free to travel.  Deputies will control all major intersections and course marshals will police participants, but the Sheriff's Department advises motorists should be cautious, expect delays and seek alternate routes if possible.

Residents should also expect reverse 911 calls on Saturday advising of the event.

Girl, 6 Others Injured after UTV Crash

A 15-year-old girl and six others were injured when the young driver lost control of a Polaris Utility Terrain Vehicle.  The girl was driving on a private road near the 3500 Block of Timber Lane in the Town of Middleton, when she hit gravel and lost control.  The vehicle overturned and threw all six occupants, ages 10-16, out of the UTV.

The driver received serious but non life-threatening injuries, but was transported by Med Flight to UW Hospital.  Four of the passengers were treated at the hospital as well, while two others were treated on the scene by EMS crews.
