Middleton Fire Department Investigates House Fire

The Middleton Fire Department is investigating an early morning house fire.

Smoke detectors woke the residents of a home at 6690 Shamrock Glen Circle in the Town of Springfield at 3:03 Thursday morning.

They saw flames coming from the ceiling, and were able to get out of the house safely.

The fire was contained to the living room and ceiling areas of the house.

A cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Two Illinois Men Arrested Following Auto Thefts

A Middleton man returning to his Nightengale Lane home Tuesday night at about 11:40 p.m. observed two suspicious men in his neighborhood.  

One of them was rummaging through a parked car, while the second man was standing near another vehicle, according to Middleton police. After the men realized they were being watched they took off in different directions on bicycles, according to witnesses.

Officers apprehended one of the men about three blocks from the home and the other about two hours later on Parmenter Street.

Police said they recovered a backpack full of items including portable electronic devices.  The men are thought to have been visiting a Middleton acquaintance for the last 10 days. 

Gilbert Wainwright, 25, of Chicago and Zachary Ferraro, 23, of Westmont, Ill., were charged with multiple counts of theft from auto.

DOT To Close Beltline Ramp

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said it will close the highway ramp from U.S. Highway 14 to eastbound U.S. Highway 12/14 Wednesday night.

The ramp will be closed from 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15 until 6 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16.

The DOT said crews will be doing some repair work on a few sections of concrete.

The DOT said it has touched base with Quaker Steak & Lube, knowing that's bike night. 

The DOT said it intends message boards to be in place Monday to notify the public about the upcoming night work and ramp closure.

Officials Prepare For Ironman Triathlon

Dane County officials are gearing up for the annual ironman triathlon this weekend for more than 2,500 athletes are competing in the ninth annual event.

The 2.4-mile swim, 112K bike race and 26.2 mile marathon will impact roads in Madison, Fitchburg, Verona and Mount Horeb and western parts of the county.

During much of the triathlon, Dane County sheriff's deputies, local police officers and volunteers will direct traffic at all major intersections along the course.

Drivers should use caution when approaching these areas, authorities said.
