The Middleton Senior Center's Nimble Fingers, a knitting and sewing group, presented more than 300 holiday stockings to a family member of the 147th Aviation Blackhawk unit on Thursday at the Middleton Senior Center.

The stockings were filled and sent to deployed service men and women of the Madison-based unit.

The Middleton Senior Center members have been working on this project for the several months, donating their time, talents and materials to assist in the program.

Gov.Jim Doyle has approved a $136,482 project to seal-coat and crack-fill the runway pavements at the Middleton Municipal Airport -- Morey Field, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The Governor's action releases $3,412 in state funds for the project, and the city of Middleton is contributing another $3,412, the DOT said. The Federal Aviation Administration is providing $129,658.

According to Eric Johnson, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will protect the investment the airport has made in runway pavements and provide additional grip to prevent sliding.

The project is scheduled to begin in May 2011 and should be completed by June 2011.

The city of Middleton will hold its semi-annual Clean & Green Middleton on Oct. 23.

The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will help local residents keep items out of landfills and properly recycle waste, such as electronics and batteries. 

Many items will be donated to local charities, such as St. Vincent de Paul, Middleton Senior Center, the Middleton Lions Club, Kromrey Middle School, Habitat restore, Kiwanis, etc. File 13 will provide a discounted rate of $.25 per pound for safely recycling electronics.

Pellitteri will be at the site until 11 a.m. with their paper shredder helping residents destroy their sensitive documents.
