Parisi Wins Dane County Executive Race

Democratic state Rep. Joe Parisi has won the Dane County executive race, breezing to a win over a fiscally conservative opponent.

"The good news is, the results are coming in and it looks like i have a new job," Parisi told supporters at his victory party to a wild ovation.

Parisi said even though he's from Madison, he won Tuesday's election because he ran a countywide campaign. Parisi defeated 62-year-old Eileen Bruskewitz, a member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors. She conceded the race just before 10 p.m.

Weeks of protests at the state Capitol focused on Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill might have distracted some from the country campaign, but it also might have awoken the voting public to some of the differences between Parisi and Bruskewitz.

Both candidates said that they think the protests had an affect. Parisi said that the he believes the protests galvanized support.

The funding will facilitate the expansion of citizen monitoring efforts of the last two years.

The money will cover the costs to put radio transmitters on the turtles and track their movements and their habitat needs.

“Our Foundation works to save endangered wildlife, protect natural lands, and promote conservation education," said Charlie Luthin, executive director of the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin. "The Besady Grants are specifically for small-scale projects that have a big impact in local communities. This year, we gave away nearly $25,000 to 28 projects across the state. We’re pleased to support the great work of city of Middleton Conservancy Land Committee and Middleton citizen volunteers."

Hail Storm Damages Homes, Vehicles

 Hail Storm Damages Homes, Vehicles

Many in the area heard the sounds of hail hitting the roof Sunday night, and they faced a tiring day of dealing with the damage Monday.

"I heard some really heavy pounding on the house," said Paul Stiteley, a Middleton homeowner.

Many viewers sent WISC-TV photos of the hail. In some areas, the hail was the size of a golf ball.

On Monday, there were dents and dings on vehicles at the Zimbrick Middleton auto dealership.

"I've been in the car business over 20 years, and this is the first time I've ever had serious damage on the cars, or where I would say it's the whole lot (that was damaged)," said Zimbrick Middleton General Manager Howard Hamre.

Hamre said that of the more than 200 cars on the lot Sunday night, all of them sustained some degree of damage from the hail storm.

"It'll probably be a week before we can figure out what needs to be done on every car that we have," Hamre said.
